Materials: Unbleached cotton muslin,
cotton & elastic tapes, cotton batting, sawdust (?).
Condition: Excellent. The elastic tapes
have lost their stretch.
Measurements: W, 28"; Pad,
13.5" X 8.5".
Comments: Entirely hand stitched, this
is a made at home version of an 1880s bustle pad. Cotton batting fills
out the largest of the stitched channels, while I believe the rest, much
firmer, are filled with a dense sawdust. With the elasticized tapes
restored, this pad would become much rounder, lifting the back of the
skirt higher.
