Materials: Cotton lawn, cotton floss, embroidered in satin and
tambour stitch.
Provenance: The woman who owned these was
a descendant of Rebecca Kingsbury Gay (1713-1807) of West Dedham, Massachusetts.
Condition: Excellent. There are a couple
of small breaks in the sleeve flounce.
Measurements: 20" x 8", Wrist C, 8".
Comments: These beautifully hand made and
elaborately embroidered sleeves were worn under the large bell shaped dress
sleeves of the Civil War period.
