Materials: Striped cotton sateen, organdy, cotton floss, bobbin lace,
Dorset buttons.
Provenance: The woman who owned these was
a descendant of Rebecca Kingsbury Gay (1713-1807) of West Dedham, Massachusetts.
Condition: The cotton sleeves are in
excellent condition. The cuffs have repairable damage; one has an old
mend, the other some of the background fabric has deteriorated.
Measurements: 17" x 8", Wrist C, 8".
Comments: These beautiful, hand
embroidered sleeves were worn under the large bell shaped dress sleeves of the
Civil War period.
