Materials: White linen mull, cotton thread
embroidery, handmade linen bobbin laces, two tiny Dorset buttons, two brass
hooks and eyes, muslin waistband lining.
Provenance: This summer gown traces back
to the descendants of a prominent Massachusetts family: Rebecca Kingsbury (b. 1713, d. 1807) of West Dedham, MA.
Condition: Very Good. There is a large
faint gray smudge in the bottom hem area, many scattered small brown spots in
the skirt front, and two small tears near the piping of the left and right
armscyes. The embroidery and fabric is in excellent condition.

Comments: The beautiful linen mull fabric
has a very fine hand and is worked in the most exquisite embroidery and drawn
work. The neckline, sleeves and hem border has a sculptural floral embroidery
with needlelace fillings. The era's highest quality materials and workmanship
were used to construct this dress.
