Materials: Sterling frame with gold
wash, amber colored cabochons, multi-colored wool embroidery floss,
canvas cloth, taupe silk faille lining and small purse, glass mirror.
Label: Frame stamped,
"Sterling".
Condition: Excellent. Minor flaws are
hardly noticeable: tiny hole in center scene, slight wear at bottom
corners and light wear to lining.
Measurements: Ht, 6"; Wd, 8".
Comments: Pettipoint bags of this
quality and condition are exceedingly scarce. I'm not sure whether the cabochon
clasp on the sterling frame is glass or semi-precious stones. The 17th
century pastoral scene worked in tiny pettipoint is identical front and back. In the foreground
among other figures one finds a mother and child in a flower garden, a
man raking his vegetable garden and a woman with a basket of fruit.
In the background is a forest with a castle in the distance. The whole
jewel-like scene is framed by a fantastic floral border. Exquisite! |
