Materials: Fine white linen cloth.
Provenance: Belonged to Frederick
Law Olmstead
(1822-1903), America's most noted 19th C. landscape architect.
Label: Small "F O" monogram
embroidered in brown cross stitch above side slit on lower right.
Condition: Very Good. One very
small hole in back; scattered faded gray stains to upper sleeve areas;
few brown spots; these do not detract from the garment.
Measurements: Chest 56"
across; 36.5" long; sleeve L 25"; Cuffs 2.5" x 8.25".
Comments: Beautifully hand sewn
formal linen shirt. Linen cloth is oyster white and has a silky hand.
The knife-pleating on the bib front was smocked, so the pleats have
"give". I sold a nearly identical Olmstead shirt which is currently
listed in my Museum Archive section.
